What it supports

Co-funding for eligible New Zealand businesses starting a structured scientific or technical R&D project.

Funding

Funds 40% of eligible R&D and capability costs up to $400,000, based on up to $1 million eligible project costs excluding GST. The applicant funds the remaining 60%.

  • The funder may contribute up to 40% of project costs.
  • An applicant contribution of at least 60% may be required.
  • Published amounts are excluding GST.

Who can apply

New Zealand incorporated company, Registered limited partnership, Māori incorporation, Māori trust or similar multiple-ownership Māori asset manager

  • Open to: New Zealand incorporated company

  • Open to: Māori trust or similar multiple-ownership Māori asset manager
  • Business must be new to R&D, have spent less than $150,000 on R&D in the prior three years and received less than $5,000 in government R&D funding in that period.
  • Business must fund 60% of R&D and capability costs.
  • Co-funding cannot come from other New Zealand government or public funds.
  • Applicants must supply financial and bank information demonstrating co-funding capacity.
